Wine has had a way of inspiring people through the ages. Countless people, from poets to sailors to kings and queens and their subjects have waxed poetic on the subject. Other than love, there may not be any other part of the human experience that people have written about with such reverence, certainty and regard.
Sometimes wine musings read like out-and-out worship, other times they’re witty, and sometimes they’re a little profane. But one thing they all have in common, is that that what everyone has to say is always true.
As Ernest Hemingway, our patron saint of living life to the fullest with a glass (or bottle in his case) in hand once remarked:
“Wine is one of the most civilized things in the world and one of the most natural things of the world that has been brought to the greatest perfection, and it offers a greater range for enjoyment and appreciation than, possibly, any other purely sensory thing.”
He sums up in one complete sentence, why wine is so beloved. But many other people have their own take on the subject. So we’ve rounded up a bunch of our favorite wine quotes and sayings, complied below. If we’ve missed any, we’d love to know what your faves are or any you think we should include in the comment section.
