A Legend(ary) Vineyard & Celebrity Wines For Summer

We admit we are biased here at WineNight, but we can’t think of too many summer bevies that quench the thirst quite like rosé wine. From dry to crisp, floral to herbaceous, a bright neon pink to a deep salmon hue, there is just no rosé that won’t do. It’s so beloved, in fact, a lot of people, especially celebrities (who have a little extra cash to spare), are getting into winemaking collaborations. And the latest famous wine lover to get into the game is the talented husband of model and Twitter boss Chrissy Teigen, crooner John Legend.

LVE is Legend’s wine brand partnership with vintner Jean-Charles Boisset of Raymond Vineyards–situated in Napa Valley, CA. Boisset is widely known as one of Napa’s pre-eminent producers. The duo began in 2015 and their collection includes a 2016 Chardonnay, a 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon and a 2014 red blend. Mmm. You can purchase LVE bottles individually or become a member and receive three bottles quarterly.

The good news is that the two have put out a pink offering out this summer. It’s a Côtes de Provence Rosé 2017 vintage and the wine itself is, according to LVE’s website, “a brilliant, pale pink color. In the glass, it is highly aromatic with delicate notes of peach blossom, raspberry and apricot. On the palate, crisp light notes of fresh picked strawberry and white nectarine lead to an elegant, lengthy and a mineral finish.” Yum. We also love that they bottled the wine with a glass “cork” stopper. It’s been a new development in wine bottling the past few years, and it’s an elegant touch that is such a Legend thing to do.

While their rosé won’t be distributed nationally on the stands of your local wine shop until sometime next year, wine lovers and John Legend fans can get their hands on a bottle today via the LVE website. Bottles run about $25 – which is a pretty decent price for the quality of the work and craftsmanship you know went into this wine. Drink this baby up! And if you’ve already gotten your hands on a bottle, we’re curious your thoughts on its taste. Let us know in the comment section below!

Maybe it has something to do with a singer’s lifestyle and the need to wet that whistle, but world-famous singers represent the lion’s share of celebrities in the wine space. We wrote about Sting and Trudie Styler’s vineyard a while back, as well the high notes of Dave Matthews’ wine and the Virginia winemaking scene. So it comes as no surprise that Jon Bon Jovi (neé Bongiovi) is trying his hand at the wine business. Since March, the rock star and his son Jesse, in cahoots with French winemaker Gérard Bertrand, a well-known player in the wine world, created the rosé Diving Into Hampton Water wine.

hamptonwaterbottlesWhile the Bongiovi’s are known for their Jersey shore roots, the family has been enjoying time out in the Hamptons for many years. It was, in fact, Jesse who pitched the idea of wanting to capture the East End’s relaxed summer lifestyle to his singer dad. They explain on their website that “The Hampton Water life is life perfected. The sun is never too hot, the water is never too cold, and the rosé never runs out. Hampton Water is your personal invitation to join us in this life… even if it is just for one glass.” Sounds good to us!

The bottle will cost you around $25, if you can get your hands on it. According to our sources, this first run is selling out fast. Luckily, there is a handy dandy “Find Us” feature in their nav bar, so you can easily track down the nearest wine store that stocks them.

While the two Jo(h)ns of note have created amazing summer rosés well worth fawning over, we would be remiss to not include a few of our other favorite celebrity wines to try.

Nicki Minaj: Myx Fusion is taking on Moscato and Sangria. The rapper says: “I wanted to make something special, something unique, something that I would love to drink. My Moscatos and Sangrias create a completely different experience.” Each wine fusion is packaged in single-serve 6-ounce screw-capped bottles, each priced at $4 a bottle.

Drew Barrymore: Working with Carmel Road Winemaker Kris Kato, the actress and vintner offer three selections of Barrymore Wines: Drew’s Blend Pinot Noir, Barrymore Rosé and Barrymore Pinot Grigio. They run you $22-$28.

Tituss Burgess:  Burgess swimming in Pinot Noir is a common sight on Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. So it seems only fitting he’d have his own Pinot Noir, to boot: Pinot by Tituss, and Pinot Pride and Rosé Pride. Working with leading Santa Barbra vintner, Delicato Family Vineyards, bottles cost about $25. And there are only two button options to purchase the wine on their site: buy now or cry later.

The couple formerly-known-as Branjelina: We would be remiss not to mention the famous ex-couple’s French estate Chateau Miraval. Brad and Angelina’s wine, especially their rosé, is a staple of summer drinking–consistently making into Wine Spectator’s list of top 100 wines. You really can’t do better than this at around $20 a pop.

That is a round-up of our fave celebrity wines. Do you have any favorite wines by celebs that you love to drink? Let us know all about them in the comment section below!
